Park Ranger
Multiple Park Locations
Description
Under direction of a Park Ranger Supervisor, provides visitor services and protection/management of natural resources. Perform general park patrol on foot, bicycle and vehicle and provides first aid/CPR assistance to park visitors. Participate in resource management duties such as trail clearing and trail marking.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree majoring in Park/Recreation Management, Natural Resource Management, or related field, with a minimum of six months related experience and/or training. Neat, clean appearance and ability to work with the general public crucial. Ability to work evenings and weekends, and shifts, and ability to adjust work schedule as required for the efficient operation of programs and facilities. Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Gardener
Colonial Park Gardens
Description
Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor and/or Senior Gardener, performs all garden and landscape maintenance required for the care of park ornamental plantings including trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals and turf.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in Horticulture or related field preferred; or at least one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Neat, clean appearance and ability to work with the general public crucial. Ability to work weekends and holidays is required. Ability to perform physical tasks under varying weather conditions. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must obtain a NJ Certified Pesticide Operator license if requested.
Maintenance Workers (2)
Lord Stirling Stable
Description
Under direction of the Foreman of Stable Maintenance, assist with maintaining the buildings, equipment, and grounds at Lord Stirling Stable. Duties include but are not limited to maintaining the indoor and outdoor rings, maintaining pastures, mowing and trimming lawns, pastures, and trails, maintaining fences and gates, assisting with repairs and construction to buildings, and snow removal. Position will also assist with the preparation of special events.
Qualifications
Ability to perform building maintenance tasks and equipment maintenance and repair. Ability to adjust work schedule to include some evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required for the efficient operation of the stable. Ability to operate tractors, mowers, and safely transport equipment using a small trailer. Ability to perform physical tasks under varying weather conditions. Ability to understand and follow oral instructions. Ability to work with the general public crucial. Must have a valid driver's license.
Stableworker
Lord Stirling Stable
Description
Under direction of the Stable Supervisors, performs duties to effectively operate an equestrian stable, including feeding and grooming of horses, care of tack, cleaning stalls, and preparation of horses and ponies for riding lessons, lead line, and pony parties.
Qualifications
Ability to perform simple maintenance tasks. Must be able to school new and young horses. Ability to adjust work schedule to include some evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required for the proper care of the horses. Ability to perform physical tasks under varying weather conditions. Ability to understand and follow oral instructions. Ability to work with the general public crucial. Must have a valid driver's license. Previous experience working with horses preferred.

Part-time Stable Workers
Duties include feeding and grooming horses, care of tack, and cleaning stalls. Must be able to adjust work schedule to include some evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to perform physical tasks under varying weather conditions. Previous experience working with horses preferred. $13/per hour
Recreation Assistant
Assist children, teens, and adults with developmental disabilities with instruction of skills in a variety of recreation activities. Duties include transporting participants to and from programs in Park Commission vans. Evening and weekend hours. Must have a valid driver’s license. Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred but not required. $13/hour + $1.00 driving differential.

Tennis Facility Attendant
Green Knoll Tennis Center/Colonial Park
Description
The Somerset County Park Commission is accepting applications for Tennis Facility Attendants at the Green Knoll Tennis Center located in Bridgewater, NJ and Colonial Park in Franklin Township, NJ. Applicants must be available to work up to 28 hours per week, be flexible in working morning, afternoon, or evening shifts, weekdays and weekends, possess strong communication skills, be able to use Microsoft Word and Excel, be reliable, work independently, and able to enforce rules and policies. Candidates must be available to work March through October. Rate of pay is $13.00 per hour.
Lifeguard, Office Attendant, and Concession Attendant
Warrenbrook Pool
Description
The Somerset County Park Commission is accepting applications for lifeguards, office attendance, and concession attendants at the Warrenbrook Pool located in Warren Township, NJ. Lifeguard applicants must have Lifeguard Certification and be CPR/AED Certified. All applicants must be available to work various shifts, possess strong communication skills, be reliable, and able to enforce pool rules and policies. The Warrenbrook Pool operates Saturdays and Sundays beginning May 28 and seven days per week beginning June 25 through September 5, 2022. The starting rate is $13.00 per hour.
Putting Course/Paddleboat/Spray Park Attendant
Colonial Park
Description
The Somerset County Park Commission is accepting applications for Putting Course/Paddleboat/Spray Park Attendants at Colonial Park in Franklin Township, NJ. Applicants must be be flexible in working morning, afternoon, or evening shifts, weekdays and weekends, possess strong communication skills, be reliable, work independently, and able to enforce rules and policies. The facility is open weekends only May 7 through June 19, and then daily from June 25 through Labor Day, and weekends September 10-25. Rate of pay is $13.00 per hour.

2022 Seasonal Park Ranger
Description
Under direction of a Park Ranger Supervisor, provides visitor
services and the protection and management of natural resources.
Performs patrol on foot, bicycle and vehicle in general use parks
and natural areas to assist visitors and solicit compliance with Park
Commission rules and regulations. Participate in resource management duties such as trail clearing, trail maintenance as well as litter
removal in a variety of weather conditions.
Uniforms are provided at no cost. Footwear is at cost of employee.
Qualifications
Two years of college is preferred but not required, majoring in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Parks Management or another related field or an equivalent combination of college and job experience.Must be able to work evenings, weekends, holidays and varying shifts, as well as the ability to adjust work schedule as required for the efficient operation of programs and facilities. Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions. Must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license. A neat appearance and the ability to effectively communicate with the public. Enthusiastic and outgoing personality is a plus.
Seasonal Maintenance Workers, Parks
Seasonal position working with fulltime maintenance staff in parks. Routine maintenance in our parks . Experience with hand tools and landscaping equipment a plus. Applicant must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to take written and oral direction from supervisory staff. Work week is Monday through Friday and some weekends and holidays. Must possess valid driver’s license.
Seasonal Greensworkers
Seasonal positions working with fulltime maintenance staff on Somerset County golf courses. Experience with turf equipment and gas powered hand tools preferred, but not required. Duties include, but are not limited to, mowing specific areas of golf courses, bunker maintenance, weed trimming, and watering. Applicant must enjoy working early morning hours, working outdoors, and be available for weekend and holiday shifts. This is a three to six month term of employment, running from May through September.
Seasonal Golf Starters/Shop Attendants
Seasonal positions working at the Commission’s golf courses include assistant at pro-shop and golf ranger/starter duties.
