Full-time Positions                    

Manager, Park Rangers   Exempt Grade 15
Leisure Services Division   Starting Rate:  $67,200  Max $95,992

Under direction of the Deputy Director/Leisure Services Division, to plan and supervise the activities of the Park Rangers, including managing the budget, coordinating all field operations, and supervising Ranger staff. Responsible for the coordination, operation, and management of interpretive and visitor services provided by the Park Rangers in general use parks. Provide resource management oversight in designatedundeveloped natural areas. Direct the activities of volunteers and corporate groups. 

The Somerset County Park Commission manages 15,000 acres of parkland throughout varied properties which  include general use parks, special use parks, developed natural areas, undeveloped natural areas, and reserve areas.  Annually two million visitors enjoy the parks and facilities of the park system. 

The Park Ranger Department is responsible for general patrol, visitor services, management of natural resources, and public safety issues in the general use parks and designatedundeveloped natural areas.  Although not law enforcement officers, Park Rangers are responsible for the enforcement of the rules and regulations governing the park system. This position is accountable for the leadership of the Park Ranger Department consisting of 13 fulltime  employees supplemented with seasonal positions.  The  current operating budget is $780,000; all of which is personnel with the exception of $58,000 in Operations (O/E).

Bachelor’s degree majoring in Park/Recreation Management, Natural Resource Management, or related field, with a minimum of five years progressive management and supervisory experience.  Ability to communicate and work with the general public is essential.  Ability to supervise staff and departmental programs.  Must have the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, and having the ability to adjust work schedule as required for the efficient operation of programs and facilities.  Must have a valid New Jersey driver’s license. Must have current CPR and First Aid certification.

Greensworker Non-Exempt Grade 6
Neshanic Valley Golf Course  Starting Rate $27,700 Max. $41,459

Under the direction of the Superintendent, responsible for the playing condition and maintenance of the grounds and turf of the golf course including operating necessary equipment to maintain greens, tees, fairways, rough, and out of play areas, bunker maintenance, preparation of new areas for seed/sod, planting and trimming trees, and snow removal. 

High School diploma or GED and one to two years related experience and/or training.  Ability to work with general public.  Must possess knowledge of year-round turf maintenance and be able to operate golf maintenance equipment. Ability to work weekends and holidays and if required, report to work for emergency situations. Must have a valid driver’s license.

part-time Positions

Recreation Assistant
Assist children, teens, and adults with developmental disabilities with instruction of skills in a variety of recreation activities.  Assist with transporting participants to and from programs in Park Commission vehicles.  Evening and weekend hours.  Must have a valid driver’s license.  Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred but not required.  $10/hour + $1.00 driving differential.  Please call (908) 722-1200 x5239 or email resume to  EOE

Part-time Stableworkers -
Basking Ridge
Perform duties to effectively operate an equestrian stable, including feeding and grooming of horses, care of tack, cleaning stalls, and preparation of horses and ponies for riding lessons, lead line, and pony parties. Candidate must have ability to perform simple maintenance tasks and to adjust work schedule to include some evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required for the proper care of the horse.  Must be able to perform physical tasks under varying weather conditions and have ability to understand and follow oral instructions. Ability to work with the general public crucial.  Must have a valid driver's license.  Previous experience working with horses preferred.  29 hours per week, $10/per hour.
