Maintenance Worker                                                        Non-Exempt Grade 6
Lord Stirling Stable                                                          Starting Rate $27,700 Max. $41,459

Under direction of the Foreman of Stable Maintenance, assist with maintaining the buildings, equipment, and grounds at Lord Stirling Stable. Duties include but are not limited to maintaining the indoor and outdoor rings, maintaining pastures, mowing and trimming lawns, pastures, and trails, maintaining fences and gates, assisting with repairs and construction to buildings, and snow removal. Position will also assist with the preparation of special events.

Ability to perform building maintenance tasks and equipment maintenance and repair. Ability to adjust work schedule to include some evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required for the efficient operation of the stable. Ability to operate tractors, mowers, and safely transport equipment using a small trailer. Ability to perform physical tasks under varying weather conditions. Ability to understand and follow oral instructions. Ability to work with the general public crucial. Must have a valid driver's license.

Position: Naturalist
Division/Dept: Leisure Services Division/Environmental Science
Grade: Exempt – Grade 10

General statement of work
Under the direction of Supervisor, Environmental Science, plans and implements environmental, historical, and cultural programs serving all ages and interest groups. Provide the general public with answers to inquires regarding the environment, ecology, and other related issues.

Nature and Scope of Activities
The Environmental Science Department is responsible for the operation of the Environmental Education Center (EEC) and the management of 500 acres of land including the 9.5 mile trail system. Six naturalists provide an extensive range of programs at the EEC and the undeveloped natural parks, focusing on local environmental issues, natural history, ecology, native plants, and outdoor recreation. Four summer science camps are also conducted. The EEC attracts 50,000 visitors annually and generates income of $200,000.

 1. Design, plan, and deliver environmental education, outdoor education, and season-based programs offered
     throughout the County park system in cooperation with all other Environmental Science Naturalist staff. Work
     flexible schedule, as needed. Schedule public programs on a seasonal basis.
 2. Prepare and deliver assigned school, scout, and birthday party programs.
 3. Recommend purchase of materials, and equipment necessary for operation of programs.
 4. Provide environmental, historical, cultural, ecological, and other regional information upon request.
 5. Staff front desk on weekends and as assigned. Fulfill administrative responsibilities including, but not limited to,
     program registrations, bookshop transactions, and end-of-day financial reports.
 6. Conduct ecological and environmental studies as directed by the Manager or Supervisor.
 7. Prepare program reports, including revenues and expenses.
 8. Participate in planning and execution of special events.
 9. Assist with corporate volunteer projects.
10. Assist with press materials, reports, and displays for public view.
11. Administer CPR and First Aid to park visitors, as needed. Obtain certification in other areas at the request of the
      Park Commission (i.e., canoe safety and instruction, fire safety, search and rescue, etc.).
12. Perform trail patrol in assigned areas and assist park visitors, as needed.
13. Exercise supervision over part-time and seasonal employees, and volunteers when required.
14. Assist in execution of Park Commission land and wildlife management programs.
15. Assist in the physical operation of the Environmental Education Center building and grounds and all associated
     task and duties.
16. Present a positive image as a Park Commission representative to all facility users and the public.
17. Follow Park Commission policies and procedures.
18. Perform other duties as assigned by the Park Commission.

This position is accountable for providing environmental educational and informational programs. The program vary in nature and size but are non-determinate in value.

Bachelor of Arts or Science degree from an accredited college or institution of higher education in the field of life science, ecology, earth sciences, anthropology, or other natural history curriculums. Degrees in other fields acceptable provided applicant has experience, training or supplementary education in life sciences.
Thorough knowledge of environmental and ecological concepts; ability to work with the public involving people of all ages; some knowledge of office practices and procedures; ability to utilize computers; basic knowledge of handling administrative matters in the absence of direct supervision. A minimum of one-year experience as interpreter is required. Considerable walking and some lifting required. Must be able to be out-of-doors in all types of weather. Ability to adjust work schedule as required for the efficient operation of facilities and programs. Must have a valid driver's license.

Position is full-time with a starting salary of $38,300 plus medical benefits.
