Birding at Middle Creek
(Adult)
Middle Creek PA Wildlife Management Area, located in the heartland of southeast Pennsylvania, is a popular birding destination. This 6,254 acre facility is particularly noted for the thousands upon thousands of ducks, geese, and swans that drop in during spring migration. We will spend the day exploring the area by van and foot. Bring binoculars, lunch, and bundle up!

Come and listen to a Naturalist read a story, relax in our comfortable library, and take a short walk. Story hour is a great way to spend some quality time with your young one while enjoying wonderful environmentally-oriented books. Pre-registration is required.

Join a weekly walking group and enhance your exercise regimen with Mother Nature! Improve your health, clear your mind, and enjoy nature as you traverse the level trails of Lord Stirling Park with a Naturalist as your guide. Leave cool, calm, and collected. Participants must be able to walk continuously at a moderate pace with occasional breaks. Bring a water bottle and a desire to leave your troubles behind. Comfortable, waterproof boots are a must in the swamp.

KinderNats is a program designed and geared for children who love being outdoors. This afterschool series will get them outside to study science and explore the natural world. These Junior Naturalists will be engaged through hiking, games, and activities. Each week will focus on a different seasonal theme. Please be dressed for all kinds of weather.

Tree House Gang

Bring your little ones to the Environmental Education Center for fun science and nature programming. These two-and-a-half hour afternoon classes will enhance learning by going outside for hikes, hands-on activities, meeting live animals, and learning by experimenting. Each month has a different theme. Please send a small snack with your child. Please dress for the weather. Please register for only the Tuesday session or the Thursday session per month. Both monthly sessions cover the same material on a weekly basis.

Organic Vegetable Gardening

Growing your own food is fulfilling for the body and mind. Working the soil and planning tasty meals with what you harvest is a great way to achieve better health, learn something new, and have fun. We will learn the basics of vegetable gardening and start some seeds for your home garden. Good soil, a willingness to get your hands dirty, and a little bit of know-how are the key ingredients in growing plants like herbs, lettuces, and tomatoes. Join us on a winter's day for some easy walking down in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. We will hike five to six miles total, at an easy pace, while doing some winter birding. Bring a bag lunch, binoculars, and, of course, dress for the weather.
