The January 1st walk is from 1:30pm – 2:30pm. Regular weekly dog walks are held on Saturdays 10:30am – 11:30am, except May 29 - August 28 when the walks are 7pm – 8pm.

Cabin Fever Kids – Winter Arts and Music Series

Need something for your kids to do during those dreary winter Saturdays? Join us for a four week activity series which will explore the arts through music, theatre arts, and crafts. This program is designed for children between the ages of 6 through10. Please pack a bag lunch for your child. A light snack will be served following an after lunch hike through beautiful Duke Island Park. Registration is required. This program is open to children of all abilities.

Join Buck Garden Foreman, Jim Fleming and learn how to create and produce soil amendments to enrich your garden soil and help to protect our environment. Why spend money for soil amendments and fertilizer when you have everything you need right at home? Join the GREEN MOVEMENT by practicing some basic compositing techniques at home. Different types of compositing will be discussed. Whether you choose to create a compost pile, use a bin, or vermiculture (using worms for composting) be prepared to get dirty as we go green. We will prepare one compost pile and turn another.

Flower & Landscape Photography - Alternative Approaches

This class will involve technical instruction focusing on alternative approaches to flower and landscape photography. We’ll explore the abstract side of photography from multiple exposure images, using filters, blur techniques and more. This class will include a lecture and shooting session in the garden. Garden Photography Workshop – Summer Photography “NEW”

Spend some time this morning with Nature Photographer Brien Szabo and learn how to take better pictures during these bright sunny days. Bright surfaces under summer sun can ‘fool’ light meters and automatic cameras and can rob your pictures of their color. Learn how to avoid these potential pitfalls and take better photographs this summer. This class will involve technical instruction in the Leonard J. Instruction is for a week, and begins with proper posture, grip, stance, and goes on to teach putting, chipping, and pitch shots. The young golfers gradually begin to use the mid to longer irons and build confidence and more successes. By the end of the week golfers will begin to use the longest clubs, the woods, and work on bunker shots. Ages 8 -17

Beginner’s Hypertufa Workshop

Hypertufa is a handmade material which resembles “tufa” (too-fa), a rugged volcanic rock used to make troughs. These containers are especially suited for small rock garden plants. You will make your own hypertufa mini-trough and receive instruction for curing and completing it at home. (It takes several weeks to cure completely). You will also receive a finished mini-trough and will plant it to create your own miniature rock garden. It’s tufa the price of one! Come dressed to get messy. Workshop fee includes the cost of materials and plants.

Wumpus Hunt (Friends of Lord Stirling Stable)

Groups enjoy a trail ride/warmup, then “Hunt the Wumpus”. Ribbons awarded to first rider in each group to sight the Wumpus. The Nature of Halloween Night Walks

Equine Mini Workshop 102
October 23 – November 20
Completion of Equine Mini Workshop 101 is a prerequisite for enrolling in this class. Students explore more advanced topics such as nutrition, clipping, bandaging, and basic conformation. Class meets on five consecutive Saturdays. There is no riding involved in this program.

Mischief Night Madness

Enjoy a game of miniature golf with the ghouls. Wear your costume and get a free goodie bag. Free cider and donuts along with moonlight hay rides, spooky tales from the witch’s cauldron, and a Park Ranger guided night hike.

15th Annual Turkey Trot
November 13
Lace up your sneakers for the Turkey Trot 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk. The course is certified in length and USATF sanctioned. Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female 5K finishers in each of the several age groups. T-shirts guaranteed only to those who register by November 2.

With everyone around for the holiday, the “rider in the family” can share their love of horses with the rest of the clan! A brief mini lesson will take place before a one hour trail ride. Inexperienced riders will enjoy a leisurely walk along the trails; a walk/trot ride will be available for more seasoned equestrians.
